Yushan is a Pineapple

While I was planning my version of Entre Deux for Galerie Les Territoires, I was working on another project to rediscover my apartment space and to rethink my relation with landscape. It took more than 6 weeks of intense work on that project. During the process, I developed methods to transform the interior space; one of them was to apply white paint on surface of objects to single out the structure of the space or to focus on a particular object. Another one was to apply threads on object to confuse its relationship with the actual space, and to create resemblance of landscape.

During the time I was working on the second process, Yushan came in.

She was firstly bored by the time consuming process, but, soon after she saw some images, she jumped on the bed and asked to have threads applying on her. It was fun, and I knew my responsibility was to properly situate her both in the original concept and in the current playfulness. We played with the threads for a while, then, she got bored again and left. There was a moment that we both had fun, and we both knew that we were doing something; we secretly share a serious moment within a game.

Without any plan in advance, Yushan showed me her ability to interfere my process of creation. That is the way we live, and, inevitably, that is part of my process of art making. Therefore, I am presenting my version of Entre Deux as “Yushan is the pineapple in between me and the wall.”
